Competition Assignment
While the world’s population increases, further complications occur such as a decrease in social cohesion. As we are confronted with these challenges we can start to imagine where to proceed from here. This offers new opportunities to designers, architects and urban planners to position themselves within this changing context. How to deal with this crowded world? How should cities densify and grow on different scale levels? How to intensify new urban developments? How can cities be built inwards to cope with this growth? These questions can be interpreted in a very broad way and are probably not easy to answer. Picture a place in your hometown and envision it to be more CROWDED in the future. For example a quadrupling of the population in a district, street, public space or building. This can for instance be a result of migration, densification or the growth of a community. Speculate on this growth, possible solutions or design strategies and how these will change the environment. Try to visualise your ideas and make sure that your intervention in the current situation is clear in your proposal. Make one A3-format picture/collage/render/drawing of your vision and intervention. The scale and scope of the entry project is up to you. Competition is an individual assignment and is free Participating in the InDeSem week costs €89,-. This will include accomodation, excursions, lectures and workshop.
