Dikkie Scipio
KAAN Architecten is a Rotterdam-based architectural firm known for its refined, context-sensitive designs that merge contemporary aesthetics with historical awareness. The practice has gained international recognition for its thoughtful approach to civic and cultural architecture.
Dikkie Scipio, architect and founding partner at KAAN Architecten, is particularly noted for her expertise in complex transformation and renovation projects. Her work often involves sensitive interventions in historic buildings, balancing preservation with modern functionality. Among her most celebrated projects is the revitalization and expansion of Paleis Het Loo in Apeldoorn, where she led the delicate integration of a subterranean extension beneath the palace’s forecourt. Another notable transformation project under her direction is the Royal Museum of Fine Arts (KMSKA) in Antwerp, where a bold yet respectful new museum volume was inserted into the heart of the 19th-century structure, renewing its role as a cultural landmark.
As part of INDESEM, Dikkie Scipio will give a lecture sharing insights from her practice and approach to architectural transformation. She is also a member of the INDESEM 2025 jury panel, contributing her expertise to the evaluation of student work and emerging design ideas.
