Ninke Happel
We are happy to announce Ninke Happel as part of the jury panel for the design contest. Ninke Happel is co-founder of HappelCornelisseVerhoeven, a practice that reimagines how architecture can evolve over time. With a strong focus on transformation and adaptive reuse, the studio works on public buildings, heritage renovations, housing, and urban interiors, always searching for ways to extend the lifespan of existing structures rather than replace them. Their approach is exemplified in projects like Fierenshoven, where an early 20th-century Antwerp housing complex was carefully restored and updated, preserving its historical character while making it relevant for contemporary living.
This year, Ninke will be part of the jury for the INDESEM design contest, where she will bring her expertise in rethinking and repurposing the built environment. Her keen understanding of materiality, typology, and urban continuity will help shape the discussion on how architecture can move beyond obsolescence through thoughtful intervention.
